Title: Dracian Legacy (Dracian, #1)
Author: Priya Kanaparti
Rating: 4 of 5 Stars
Blurb: Ren and Axel are caught between two powerful magical races: one destined to end the bloodshed, the other out for vengeance.
Seventeen-year-old Ren Pernell is prophesied to end the war between the Dracians and the Telalians. So when a Dracian, Axel Knight, is sent to find and bring back the prophesied one before she turns eighteen and Telalians discover of her existence, unexpected sparks start to fly between the two. Once Ren finds the truth behind Axel’s arrival, she wants everything to do with him and nothing to do with his mission.
Things prove to become difficult as Ren’s life is constantly threatened by the Goarders, humans who sold their souls, a Proxy Succubi, and the leader of the Telalians, who has been searching for her as well.
With the clock ticking and Ren’s life in jeopardy, it is no longer just a mission for Axel. It becomes a personal endeavor to save the only one he’s ever loved. In a heart racing ending, they must find a way to evade the preordained war that won’t also end Ren’s life.
My Review: Dracian Legacy is a paranormal romance about a girl caught in the middle of a war between two races of magical beings. It starts off well, is a page turner and was quick to capture my attention. Kanaparti does a great job with her debut novel and it truly has a lot of potential: as a novel and as a series.
- This novel had so many components that made it an amazing read. It had amazing character development both for main characters and supporting characters as well.
- This novel also had the romance and steamy-ness in spades. The romance got to be a little cheesy in some scenes but it was all of the flower and hearts variety I love so much.
- The premise was intriguing and well presented.
- Great action scenes. Well she spoon feeds it to us- a little at a time under this battle royale at the end, which was amazing.
- Good storyline and with great pacing.
So, here is what I’ve been trying to nicely ease into. This book truly had the potential to be a 5 star novel but there seemed to be a few problems with it. *Note: I am aware of the fact that I got a very early version of the novel and not the final product readers will be getting.* My biggest issue with this novel is time. The flow of time was a bit disjointed. Sometimes one thing would lead to another without explanation. Characters would appear in wierd ways and go unintroduced, one scene leads to another without transition and things of the sort.
So the above complaint clearly took away from the novel for me. However, it’s a book that is worth reading. It actually makes for a great pastime and I truly enjoyed the novel and will be picking up it’s sequel. The story line is well-developed yet leaves enough intrigue that it will keep you guessing. Dracian Legacy is definitely a book I recommend.
